What's shipped, what's next.

MCDS releases follow a public versioned cadence. Every major release goes through a structured public draft window before adoption. Institutions can plan against a real roadmap.

  1. February 2025

    V1.0

    Released

    First sector-owned release

    Initial release of the standard, formally launched to the CAUDIT and CUCCIO communities. Established the governance constitution and the first generation of HERM-aligned entities.

  2. March 2026

    V2.0.1

    Released

    Production-ready foundation

    19,893 lines of schema · 3,883 entities · 12 domain-specific schemas · 14,021 reference data records. XBRL-modelled Reporting Framework with Python validation. Reference data is now Canada-aware (Statistics Canada classifications shipped alongside ABS / ISO).

  3. June 2026

    V2.1

    Released

    Capability and curriculum

    Resource Usage · HCR & Capability Ontology · Curriculum · Graduate Research. The capability layer that makes Human Capability Records possible.

  4. June 2026

    V2.1.1

    Released

    Recognition of Credit

    Released at the June townhall. Adds a new Recognition of Credit standard on top of V2.1. The current standard spans 24 domains and more than 5,400 entities covering curriculum, student management, finance, HR, research administration and government reporting — drawn from reference data across four jurisdictions.

    Global crosswalks

    PESC Crosswalk to align MCDS with US standards. The first formal step toward MCDS as a globally portable layer for higher learning data.
